Siva Shankar Baba’s entry into the world is the
proclamation of Righteousness to be. The world comprises of both good and bad. So what must we do — rid people of evil thoughts and help them nurture the good within them. A true Gnani does not deny his grace to anyone. A good doctor never declines his services to a patient regardless of the cause for the patient’s illness. His duty is to cure the patient. Similarly, an enlightened man’s heart softens with compassion at a person waylaid by temptations. This is the
true Grace of Siva. The Jyothi — the Guiding Light known as
Ayyappa emanated forth from this overflowing compassion to rescue the world from the evils threatening to hold sway.
When the noble feel frail, the trick is to make the malicious but strong unite with them in an attempt to churn the ocean of compassion and retrieve the nectar of Truth that will overwhelm the evil and bring forth the good. That was the rationale of the Mohini and Ayyappa avatars.
The derivation is: if you wish something good to happen, you must include the negative too; once the Current is produced, It will invalidate the negative.
This current called Ayyappa, a consequence of the churning of the milky ocean by the positive forces of the Devas and the negative forces of the Asuras, is the Jyothi in SabariMala drawing towards it millions of people regardless of their frames of mind, with no distinction of caste or creed.
There is no human on earth who does not wish to transform himself. He longs for just the opportunity. Even the worst criminal in hiding yearns to get rid of the wickedness in him, to lead a life free from the fear of getting caught; but the society is not willing, the moment he shows himself in public, they pounce on him. It is this fear that makes him commit more crimes.
Many unfortunate youngsters get caught in such illusory ‘Chakravyugas’ like Abhimanyu. They do not know to free themselves. Only a Lord Krishna can free them from these deceptions.
The penance of Ayyappa, the Eternal Jyothi, at Sabarimala is aimed at offering salvation to the human beings who are desperate to save themselves from the diversions of the world. That is why you notice when persons observe the vow for forty eight days before the pilgrimage to Sabarimala, they try their utmost not to smoke or drink; it is a God given opportunity for them to retrieve themselves from the temptations swaying them. The garland they don for those forty-eight days is like a shield for them, reminding them of their vows. The vow the pilgrims undertake is a sampling of the illumination of the Eternal Light, a subtle reminder of what they can attain if only they attempt to conquer their lower selves. Ayyappa shows you a taste of the divine life during those forty-eight days and this leads you to several such years of forty-eight days per year of fasting for Ayyappa till such time you have fortified yourself enough by divine grace to become a whole-time seeker.
This Power to transform everything into good was gained by the sacrificing nature of Ayyappa. So many princes have come and gone, they would have sought the throne only. Whereas the young prince Manikandan (Ayyappa’s name as a prince) rejected his the offer of his father Rajasekara Pandian to crown him. At the tender age of 12, Ayyappa decided to perform penance at Sabarimala for the good of the world. Which is why He is a veritable beacon Light today to the persons who swim in desperation to reach The Shore. He is their guiding Light leading them from the darkness of worldly pursuits to the Light of Eternal Wisdom, from the immoral falsities to the triumph of Truth and therefore from mortality to Salvation.
If an iron piece is covered by trash, will it be able to attach itself to a magnet, however close it is? The process is to clean the iron piece and then the magnet will automatically draw the iron piece towards it. The powerful magnet called Ayyappa, makes you observe the vow for forty eight days to cleanse you of the dirt you have accumulated and once you have committed yourself, makes you a magnet yourself in a bid to make more magnets through you in geometrical progression.
You can light several candles with one little candle. The Light called Ayyappa enlightened me. I offer thanks giving to Him by brightening up the lives of those who come to me.
