LOOK WITHIN! PERCEIVE GOD
Excerpts from Baba's speech
Once a man goes to the Buddha and asks, “Is there something called God?” for which Buddha answers, “God? There is nothing called God.” Minutes later another man approaches the Buddha and asks, “Is there God in this world?” “How can the world operate without God? God does exist.” replies the Buddha. Few minutes later, a third man approaches the Buddha and asks the same question, “Does God exist?” “I do not know” replies the Buddha.
One of his disciples who was watching all this asks the Buddha, “Why is it that you gave three different answers to three different people for the same question? I am unable to understand why you answered differently to each person though their query was the same.” The Buddha replied, “I gave the same answer to all three of them”. The disciple looks confused. The Buddha explains, “All the three persons who came to me had pre-conceived notions and had formed conclusive opinions on the existence or non-existence of God. Their coming to me with this question was only a pretext… to claim that Buddha also says the same thing. My reply to each of them was to convey the message, ‘I am not willing to co-operate with you. You can keep your opinions to yourself.’ So, haven’t I given the same answer to all three of them?”
It is this judgment that is an obstacle to perceiving the Truth. Every person has pre-conceived notions and preferred angles of thought. If someone expresses their opinion on the same lines, he supports it. If someone expresses their opinion in an angle that differs from his and is not favorable to him, he will not accept it. As long a person seeks outside, he will not be able to perceive the Truth. As long as you look outside, the vision will not be right. You have to look within. Why is there a problem when you look outside? Now for instance, let’s say there is no electricity within this room. Would you be able to see that I am in this room? When someone switches on the light, you will be able to see that I am seated here. To even prove to you that an object exists, you need a switch and someone is needed to turn on the switch. Otherwise, I will not be visible to your eyes. Now I am seated here and the light is turned on. Due to the dispersion of light and your position in the room, I will appear different to each one of you. Thirdly, the light is real, I am also real. But, if you had short-sight or problems with you vision, you will not be able to see me as I am. Let’s say your eyesight was perfect. But you are wearing cooling glasses. If the lenses are of red color, I’m going to appear red to your eyes, if it was blue, I’d appear blue; if the lenses were black, I’d appear black to your eyes. This implies that even if your spectacles had a problem, I will not be visible to your eyes the way I really am.
Therefore, external vision is always misleading. Sit with your eyes closed. Then your vision will not be affected by any external objects, isn’t it? Whatever vision you perceive then would be correct. You have no external judgment on whatever you want to understand. It is your own inference with your own inner light. Your perception is from within. ïŸøõˆîõ˜ àœO¼‰ 惰‹ ïñ„Cõ£ò«ñ . The name of Lord Siva that resounds in the hearts of those who perform good penance. That is the definition of Siva. Have you observed anyone say “èìªõO”? èì àœ- è쾜 (meaning God in Tamil; ªõO meaning outside and àœ meaning within) Therefore, look within in order to comprehend the Truth.
